Brisbane born musician, DJ Habitual p_l, has skyrocketed up the ranks of Brisbane’s
underground music scene with his unique blend of tough yet melodic Hardstyle. From humble beginnings as the lead singer of a teenage rock band, through to adopting turntables at the age of 22, Habitual p_l is well on his way to becoming a leader in the Brisbane and Australian Hardstyle scene.
Like most other 90’s children, Habitual p_l took a liking to Billy Ray Cyrus’ hit ‘Achy Breaky Heart’. Since that early love for melodies, Habitual p_l has matured musically over the last decade, to now be banging out the latest Hardstyle at Brisbane’s most respected venues and events. His dedication to dance music has seen him achieve over the past three years what many DJ’s fail to achieve in a lifetime. Spinning tunes ranging from house to gabber, Habitual p_l doesn’t limit himself to one genre of music, a choice which has resulted in him being billed at a number of musically diverse parties and clubs.
Habitual p_l has supported a number of iconic Brisbane DJ’s including hardcore legend Seventy-7, Kuruption, Inditispity, S3rl, Bipolar and Blitzkrieg, as well as interstate DJ and Producer Luke Spellbound. With influences ranging from Steve Angello and Sebastian Ingrosso on the softer side of electronica to DJ Zany and Showtek in the harder department, Habitual p_l has the flexibility and ability to play a range of genres to a range of crowds, rarely limiting himself to playing one style of music throughout a set. It is this attitude towards music and performing which has helped him adapt to different gigs and keep crowds rocking all over Brisbane.
Playing his first gig at a Fuze Bangers party in December 2006 resulted in the publicity he needed to burst onto the scene. Following his maiden club gig, Habitual p_l played a number of clubs and parties in the subsequent months including the ‘Fuze B-Zone’ party at renowned Brisbane hard dance nightclub Rockerfellas. He has also played at the Traffic Crew’s ‘After Dark’ parties 1 & 3 at the newly renovated Australian National Hotel. Habitual p_l also holds a weekly residency on Internet radio site Krankydigital, and has played at Intencity’s Krankydigital party and Ekka rave. He will also be playing at the upcoming Fuze and Traffic club night ‘Frozen Flame’, featuring Brisbane’s best harder genre DJ’s, and has a number of interstate gigs lined up towards the end of 2007 and early 2008.
Despite playing regular gigs, Habitual p_l is also focusing on a number of side projects. With his Promotion and Event Company, Traffic Crew, starting to hold regular parties, Habitual p_l is looking to further cement his place in the Brisbane music scene. He is also working with DJ’s Torne and Dirty B to launch a new record label called Konflikt in early 2008. This record label will see Habitual p_l branch into the production aspect of music whilst still playing regular gigs and hosting parties. It is this dedication to the various aspects of dance music and the industry that has made DJ Habitual p_l one musician to keep an eye and ear open for in the not so distant future. Whether he’s banging out Hardstyle to the most energetic of crowds or laying down progressive house in an intimate environment, Habitual p_l is well poised to take Brisbane and Australia by storm.
